I would like to have learned earlier in business life to understand the basics motivations and behaviors of myself and others. Only when I mastered the Personality Profile using the DiSC archetypes, did I come to fully appreciate my own actions, beliefs and motivations 11 and then I could begin to understand those who were had different motivators.
Learning about the Personality Styles is one of the most valuable things I ever did -- I wish I had learned it even earlier in my life! Tom Williams posted in my LinkedIn account.

I've lived in 4 countries, two languages, and several careers. Starting over has been an every few years kind of thing for my whole life. What have I learned? I guess there are about 4 stages: 1. Let's call it tourist stage. It's a new country, new job, new home, new language, etc. It's exciting. Like being a tourist. 2. Let's call it the homesick stage. You miss you old job, country, language, friends. Hearing a magpie's warble on Man From Snowy River did it for me. 3. Let's call this the settling in stage. You accept the good and bad as part of your new life. You've adapted. 4. Let's call this the going back home stage. You restart an old career, return to your home country, rekindle old friendships, etc. But everyone's moved on since you left. It's all different. You're now a foreigner in your home country, a newbie in your old job, a stranger to old friends. You've grown beyond the confines of national pride, language lines, bigotry and prejudice. You've become a world citizen. You wish you could put the good from all last jobs, countries, friendships into one place. But you can't, and so you settle in again, but now you are forever changed. You are an internationalist, a world citizen, more cautious with friendships, more open with opinions, more adaptable, not so narrow minded. Congratulations! You've joined the human race. Whoever created this graphic is genius! (It wasn't me). A friend shared it on Facebook and I felt it made a great topic to share on this blog.
Many of us started out this virus attack in the FEAR ZONE. Nothing like this has ever happened to us before. It has been a gradual awakening to what we can each do and we can handle this situation. Hopefully after the first month of "safe at home" confinement, we can progress to the LEARNING ZONE! Now we are definitely coming to an understanding and realization of the GROWTH ZONE! Attitudes of appreciation abound! People are thinking of ways to help others, relieve stress and unite as communities. Individuals and families are becoming more involved, loving and strong. We are all STARTING OVER! We will never return to our old "normal" -- a mind and body stretched by a new idea or a new experience can never return to its original shape and form! To quote George Matthew Adams: IT IS NO DISGRACE TO START ALL OVER. IT IS USUALLY AN OPPORTUNITY! Wouldn't it be wonderful to have a crystal ball to see how all this is going to come out?
If we go back to middle school science class and remember what Isaac Newton said in of his laws (I think the 3rd one) -- "For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction." This also applies to our thoughts, our problems and our questions. For every problem there is an equal and opposite solution. For every questions there is an equal and opposite answer. Let's imagine what our future is holding because of this extreme situation we are experiencing, collectively. It would be a future full of answers to our questions (of course we'll have more questions soon thereafter). It will be a time of solutions to our problems of today. Today we have sickness, shortages of medical supplies and equipment and even household items. The future will provide solutions: more wellness and improved health, abundance of needed supplies and groceries. That is just law. Newton said so! Focus on these answers and solutions. Because these are big problems, there will BIG solutions! Equal and opposite -- solutions that are in keeping with the magnitude of the problem. Rejoice and applaud all those who are solving problems, working to invent new equipment and finding new distribution avenues. Cheer on those who are working to come up with new medicines, vaccines and other things we can't even imagine right now! The entire planet is actually going to be starting over! Use your imagination to picture a fabulous new world. Let's cheer each other on! Our goal with our Facebook Group, as well as this blog site, it to help chronicle some of the experiences we've all had in starting over! When we have big life changes -- SIGNIFICANT EMOTIONAL EVENTS -- we tend to make new priorities, discard old unhelpful beliefs and chart a new course for our lives.
This worldwide event that we are all experiencing is one fabulous opportunity to get a wider and higher perspective (nothing like isolation or "social distancing" to do that, huh?) I, for one, have used this time to launch a long-held dream -- that of helping people start over in their lives with a more empowered meaning for their future! This blog site, as well as the Facebook group with the same name, are my (our-my husband/partner in crime, Tom) first attempts. when I speak in the first person, it is understood that together we are behind this "movement." We don't want it to be our show, though. Please share your experiences. There is someone, somewhere who needs to hear what you have to say! Blessings and good health to you! Tom and Linda Heard this phrase a lot lately, huh?
You know that is also one of the ways you can mentally, internally help your attitude. Have ever noticed that when you feel yourself thinking negative thoughts, having worrisome scenarios running though your mind -- nightmares when not asleep, the worse it gets, the worse it gets? Your negative attitude can tend to spiral downward. STOP! You need to shift that thinking. The only way to stop negative thoughts is to think about something positive, uplifting, and fun. We've been given some new vocabulary in recent days and weeks. You need to SOCIAL DISTANCE yourself from those negative though. You want to FLATTEN THE CURVE for your own improved attitude. Turn your thoughts to better feeling ones by shifting to think about fun things, happy experiences, delicious food, jokes that make you laugh -- anything to flatten the curve! Maybe this is what Jesus meant when he said, "turn the other cheek!" He was saying to distance yourself from your negative thinking and flatten the curve with your positive thoughts! Have a wonderful day! New Day. New Beginning!
APPRECIATION. This one thing will get your day started off best and help salvage a day that become rotten! Look around and appreciate... what's working? ...what's beautiful? ...what's fun and funny? ...what is growing and becoming more? ...what's there to love? ...what's life offering as opportunities? Then ask (and answer):
SMILE AND SHINE ON! Your are an inspiration to those around you! So, we begin again!
This blog is a perfect example of starting over. We began this blog in 2015 and just sort of abandoned it as we became involved in a new business that took most of our time. We never gave up the dream of helping people start over -- and have fun doing so! We have been in direct sales since the 1970s. We have started over so many times it is hard to even keep count. We’ve been in sales, had to learn about new products, new industries and new methods of marketing. Much of our effort was with Network Marketing companies. Think about how things have changed since the 1970s! We used to have only our telephone and the US Mail. We bought an answering machine and our long-distance bill back at that time would be $800/mo. We were the early adaptors of those companies that offered lower long distance – Sprint, MCI, etc. We even started our own long-distance telecom company in the mid-90s! Since the home computer, fax machine, the world-wide web and other marvels have come along, our business ventures and marketing opportunities have come and gone with innovations in the market and the various changes that have come along. It has been staggering! We’ve struggled to keep up with technology. But we have managed to START OVER …and over again! And have FUN doing it! But, you know, each time we’ve had the experience and knowledge learned from the past experiences. We’ve had expanded circles of friends and acquaintances that have filled our lives with richness and joy. We’ve had the excitement and enthusiasm that comes with a new idea… a new venture… a new opportunity! We find we can build on what we've previously learned and experienced. Each time we're a little smarter and a little wiser! The biggest thing we’d like to share from this vast life experience is that there’s always HOPE… there’s always a new beginning… there’s always a rainbow and a silver lining! Come back and join us soon. Leave us a comment. We’d love to hear your stories about how you have overcome adversities, fought back, and STARTED OVER! Linda |
